“You are only as good as your last photograph.”
These are humble words from a man who is known for his mastery of combining fine art photography with Japanese Rope Bondage, David Lawrence.
David Lawrence a fine art photographer/bondage artist whose personal style and substance, masterfully captured on human canvases, is well known throughout the world. Engaging and personable, David is not only a master photographer of expressive portraits, social functions, and people for more than twenty five years, but also a sought after mentor who has guided many “name” photographers and rope artists.
David became interested in Shibari, the Art of Japanese Rope Bondage, in early 2003. With a keen artist’s eye, he recognized the inherent beauty of rope on skin. Shibari quickly became a passion, one that developed more intensely as he worked with and experienced the magic of rope. David’s talent and skill truly emerged as he delved deeper into the art of tying rope. His ties are meticulous, intricate, intense and beautiful. In fact, they are true works of art.

I purchased his first book, BOUND, a collection of work that he calls “Phase I” of his journey with rope and photography. This book is beautifully done. The images are nothing less than stunning and inspirational. The book is sold out and there are no reprints available at this time. BOUND was so well received, he agreed to publish a second one, reBOUND. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience the aesthetic beauty of intricate ties on soft sensual bodies, and feel the tightness of the restrictive, abrasive rope through Masterful photographic images. Reserve your copy today, I did.

Listen to a candid conversation with the man himself on the site of a recent rope workshop about his life, work, and what the future holds in store for him.
Funny thing was, I was so relaxed because I was in ropes until 30 minutes before the interview. Mellow doesn’t even cover it.
Note his comment about my “submissive” nature. I really enjoy this job.
